[Travel Tips 旅游小贴士] How to plan a trip with parents oversea

1. Plan on which countries you and your family would like to visit?
Some of the most popular destinations/cities that people travel to:
i) Korea – Seoul (NamiIsland,Everland, etc), Busan or Jeju Island
ii) Hong Kong – Ocean Sea Park, Hong Kong Disneyland
iii) etc...

2. Who are the family members you going with?
If you are going travelling with budget, are your parents or family okay with NOT shopping
and okay with staying in a hostel, home-stay or guesthouse.
As my family and I, we normally booking a guesthouse with either 2 or 3 persons per room (we have 5 – 6 persons).
By the way, you also can choose rent a hostel, apartment or a home-stay. For us, we just need a place to sleep and bath,
because we go out early in the morning and come back late night after bath then sleep,
wake up and bath then go out, we have not much time spend or enjoy in a luxury hotel so we choose a place that can sleep,
bath and warm (travel in spring or winter time, need some place to keep warm).

3. Transportation
When it comes to transportation, there have few types you can choose,
such as bus, train, flight, boat or renting a car/van.
Travelling using a flight is out of the list since it's a budget trip,
unless you wanted to travelling from one city to another city (e.g: Seoul to Jeju Island)

For bus or train, normally it's just like Malaysia "Touch & Go".
So, you can easily get a card like nearby grocery shop or 24 hours shop.
Like in Korea or Hong Kong, once you get back your luggage, even can get in airport (actually many shop have sell it).
p/s: I have no idea how about the transportation for Europe country,
so far my family and I haven't been Europe country yet.

Another way, you can choose to renting a van/car or drive by your own.
This option, you will get to see the best view or you can just stop anytime and take beauty photos.
But I will not choose this way because sometimes parents are too worry their kids
drive in an unfamiliar roadside and if we drive in countries like Korea or Japan,
the first thing we need to know their language.
Besides that, renting a van sometimes is more expensive then taking public transport and some they are charging by hours.

4. Plan a Date
If you really want to travel with your parents or family, you must sacrifice your time for them.
Sit down with them and discuss, don't always give excuse as no money, no time but once you earn enough, you have no time or no chance travel with your parents.

As us, brother is a primary school teacher, so we have no choice,
we need to ask and plan in School Holiday or either we sacrifice him, book and go.
That's easy, but make sure plan it like at least few months in advance,
so that you could save a lot money on your flight ticket, also have time to plan your schedule and save some pocket money.

5. Use a proper map
Plan your trips properly by using a map. When I plan my schedule on Korea trip,
I'm using konest.com (韩巢) for my Korea trip (Busan, Jeju & Seoul) to check every place,
from here to here, from there to there. But I'm using Google Map for Hong Kong & Macau.
Well, Google Map is good options that show the time of the journey and it's accurate.

Capture the map and write down the way how to reach the destination (By Google Map)

6. How many days you need?
You don't need to stay in every cities of the countries,
you can just visit or having some food in the place and continue your journey
(not all place need 1 days to explore it).
As in Korea or Hong Kong, many place that subway/train can be reach,
so you don't need keep moving guesthouse.

There are many websites these day that allow you to book
or either you can choose to book your guesthouse or room together with your flight ticket,
this may save some money.
